University of The Arts London
The opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to share your industry experience in audio and video journalism to inspire London College of Communication students to kick start their media careers.
As Lecturer in Journalism (Audio & Video), you will play a key role teaching audio and video journalism and industry-related skills to students across BA (Hons) Journalism and MA Journalism.
You will support students to tell stories across different forms of audio and visual media, such as podcasts, short video documentaries and creative videos for social media, guiding them to develop their portfolios alongside the knowledge and attributes they need to succeed in an evolving media industry.
You will also have the opportunity to work on other courses and projects in the department, as well as work collaboratively with the programme team to develop pedagogy and the curriculum in innovative and critical directions.
About You
You will require a firm foundational knowledge of essential journalism skills, media law and ethical codes, along with experience of teaching, training or mentoring young people.
You will need up to date industry experience in self-shooting and editing video journalism for online platforms, using both smartphones and cameras. Knowledge of the Adobe software suite would be useful.
You will also be able to record and edit audio to produce a podcast and know how to adapt your work for different social media platforms. Working knowledge of using SEO and data analytics to find new audiences is equally important.
You may have an interest in or have worked in the areas of social justice or lifestyle journalism.
If you are excited by the challenge of working with a diverse, international range of learners and discovering innovative ways of developing their knowledge, we will be delighted to hear from you.
