To ensure more young people are given this opportunity, they are recruiting a Head of Trusts and Foundations to grow income and capitalise on new funding opportunities.

• Location: Hybrid with two days a week expected in the Warwickshire office

The Smallpeice Trust was founded in 1966 by Dr. Cosby D P Smallpeice – a brilliant engineer who invented the Smallpeice Lathe. Following his success, Dr. Smallpeice ploughed £1.6m of his personal fortune into setting up The Smallpeice Trust to give young people the support they need to bring their big ideas to life through science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM).

About the role

The Head of Trusts and Foundations will lead the Third and Public Sector Bidding Fundraising Team and is responsible for the creation and delivery of the strategy, ensuring income targets are set and achieved. This externally facing team is responsible for generating income from trusts, foundations, and statutory funders across the UK.

Role responsibilities

• Building on the work of the current third and public sector bidding fundraising team develop and execute a fundraising strategy to:
  • Leverage existing relationships with existing supporters and funders.
  • Identify and proactively approach new supporters, both regional and national, to increase income.
  • Retain and grow existing and new funding opportunities and partnerships.
• Lead, mentor, coach and develop the third and public sector bidding fundraising team ensuring KPIs and PDPs are put in place to ensure success.
• Monitor, evaluate and report on the team’s funding pipelines.
• Take a hands-on approach to new funding opportunities and account management.
• Together with the Director of Engagement and the Head of Corporate and University Partnerships generate and be responsible for delivering ambitious income targets and KPIs for trust and foundation fundraising.
• Develop relationships with key internal and external stakeholders that will facilitate and support the fundraising strategy.
• Lead the development and delivery of large bids (£100k plus) to funding prospects (public and third sector) that demonstrate genuine business and societal benefits of supporting The Smallpeice Trust.
• Leverage opportunities to enhance the Smallpeice brand via funding partners, while also protecting the reputation of the Smallpeice brand and name.
• Build a strong network of loyal partners who will support Smallpeice for the long term and deliver sustainable fundraising income.
• Build strong and harmonious working relationships with a range of key staff at Smallpeice, maximising cross-team and cross-division opportunities and embedding fundraising effectively across the organisation.
• Ensure the CRM is continuously updated and used to maximise existing and new opportunities.
• Ensure that fundraising activities, systems and behaviours are compliant with regulatory requirements and sectoral Codes of Practice.
• Ensure that all fundraising activity takes place in accordance with Smallpeice core values, purpose, and strategy.

Who we are looking for

We are searching for experienced, creative, and determined senior trust, foundations and statutory specialists who have a passion for education and inspiring young people.

Leading a skilled and driven team, you will be responsible for enhancing The Smallpeice Trusts’ bidding offering and driving income growth from new and existing funders.

Background specifications

• Minimum of five years’ experience within trusts and foundations.
• Experience of leading a team ideally within a trusts and foundations function.
• Experience of creating and implementing a successful trusts and foundations fundraising strategy.
• Experience of securing six-figure funding bids.
• Experience of securing public sector and statutory funding is desirable.
• An ability to spot and maximise fundraising opportunities and partnerships.
• Experience of high-level relationship and partnership development.
• A passion and/ or understanding of STEM education for children and young people.
• Excellent command of the spoken and written English language including proposal-writing skills.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills.
• Proven negotiation and influencing skills.
